What to see at Villa Torlonia

Villa Torlonia is a park with an English landscape garden and historic buildings spread across its grounds. Its main sights include Casino Nobile, Casino dei Principi, Serra Moresca, Campo da Tornei, Lago del Fucino and La Casina delle Civette.

The grounds bring together architecture and artistic furnishings in a landscaped setting. You can make a simple visit of a walk through the garden, or plan to go inside one or more of the museums; the separate buildings give the park its varied character.

Finding La Casina delle Civette

Finding La Casina delle Civette

La Casina delle Civette is a museum in Villa Torlonia, known for its collection of artistic stained glass. Its story begins with the Capanna Svizzera, designed by architect Giuseppe Jappelli in 1839, before the building was transformed into an eclectic villa in the early 20th century.

Rome acquired Villa Torlonia in 1978, and the Casina became a museum after restoration. Include time to see the building itself as well as its museum focus: the architectural evolution from a 19th-century structure to an eclectic villa is part of its appeal.
